abu abDul diving with abDul 1993
My Arabic nickname name is abu abDul, in reality I am called Jens. I was born on 4th July 1961 in Berlin, nowadays I live in Gütersloh/Germany.
Inspired by Jacques-Yves Cousteau as I was a young boy I have started with diving 1988 in Cuba.
I experienced a wonderful diving teacher at this time. Teaching without any aspects of anxiety and exaggerated emphasis of security, quite differently in comparison to actual times, the light-hearted diving experience was in the foreground. Then I continued diving mainly in the Red Sea several times a year. I have visited mainly Safaga, Qusier and Marsa Alam. Off-shore I prefer Elphinstone, Brothers and Daedalus.
My son Adrian, his Arabic nickname is abDul, was seven years old as I put him at the end of a dive under my arm and gave him my second regulator to see all these wonderful creatures and plants under the water. Nowadays abDul is 23 years old and in the meantime a perfect diver. We both together experienced wonderful dives over the years. Our collaboration is perfect, so that I feel always a little bit uncomfortable, if abDul is not my buddy.
Approx. 5 years ago we both have started with the documentation of our underwater impressions in different ways. abDul did it by photographs, these are really good! You can see his work at www.adrian-schoene.de, unfortunately is the text only in German.
I like movies so I have decided to start with video-filming. Our main preferences are sharks. Over the years we saw a lot of them, it was always a majestic feeling to meet these animals.
Sharks are often cited with negative attributes. I recommend the book ‘sharks’ of Mr. Eibl-Eibesfeld who explained in a good manner what he has observed. It is a book written from a scientic perspective.
My other hobby is chess that has also to do with a clear brain….which does not mean that intention and result will match every time my expectations.
